THOUGHTS ABOUT THE LITTLETON TRAGEDY . . .

”The tragic shooting in Colorado has brought to the forefront the consequences of a society that has removed God and prayer from any public function. The removal of moral absolutes in the name of “tolerance,” the breakup of the family, and the entertainment industry’s portrayal of violence, have all contributed heavily to the rise in violence across this nation.” [Rev. Lou Sheldon’s Message to Pastors, Traditional Values Coalition,, 4/21/99] Continue to pray for the students, families and school personnel in Littleton.

MCDONALD’S EMBRACES HOMOSEXUALITY

McDonald’s recently approved a resolution that would add “sexual orientation” to its corporate nondiscrimination and anti-sexual harassment policies. McDonalds is now in the process of rewriting their employee handbooks and preparing new anti-discrimination posters to be hung in its restaurants. According to the Seattle Times, the policies were amended after McDonald’s was approached by the Seattle-based Pride Foundation and the Boston-based Trillium Asset Management – both companies were responsible for drafting the “sexual orientation” resolution that was approved by McDonalds. The Washington Blade, a “gay” newspaper, reported that such moves by a big corporation like McDonald’s tend to have a domino effect. According to Kim Mills, Human Rights Campaign education direction, “Whenever you see a large company ,,, taking a step like this, the competitors watch.” Homosexual activists, spurred on by the McDonald’s victory, are now targeting two other large corporations – General Electric (GE) and Exxon – to amend their company’s nondiscrimination policies. Shareholders from both Exxon and GE could be voting on resolutions to prohibit “sexual orientation” discrimination in the near future. [Culture Facts, 4/15/99]

MISSOURI LEGISLATIVE UPDATE . . .

1. “HATE CRIMES” (SB 328): This bill amends current state law regarding ethnic intimidation (hate crimes), by renaming it a crime of criminal intimidation. Crimes with an enhanced penalty due to motivation by actual, presumed or perceived race, color, religion, national origin or sex, will be expanded to include “sexual orientation” and disability. Crimes against homosexuals will be treated more seriously, with greater penalties, than the same crimes against the other 98% of the population. CURRENT STATUS: SB 328 was passed by the Senate, by a vote of 20-14, on 4/20/99. This bill now moves to the House. HB 717, the House version of SB 328, is currently #21 on the House Perfection Calendar. ACTION: Call your Missouri State Representative at 573-751-2000 with your concerns about adding “sexual orientation” to the current civil rights/hate crimes laws (SB 328 or HB 717). NOTE: SB 328 was enlarged to include other bills dealing with involuntary manslaughter, leaving the scene of a shooting, identify theft and hunting accidents. [Missouri Family Network, 4/99]

2. PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION BAN (HB 427): This bill bans partial-birth abortions by creating the crime of “infanticide,” which would be a class A felony. This crime is violated by intentionally killing a living infant up to one year from birth, a partially born baby, or an aborted baby who is still living despite any other abortion procedure. CURRENT STATUS: The House passed HB 427 by a veto proof majority of 129/32. HB 427 is now on the Senate Calendar. Governor Carnahan has already stated he plans to veto the bill unless a “health” exception is attached. The “health” exception renders the bill useless and unenforceable. In addition, medical experts have stated that a partial-birth abortion is never medically necessary. ACTION: Contact your Missouri State Senator at 573-751-2000 and request that the House version of HB 427 be passed. Contact the Governor’s office (216 State Capitol, Jefferson City, MO 65102. Ph: 573-751-3222) and ask Governor Carnahan to reconsider his position.

3. WORKFORCE EXECUTIVE ORDER (STW) WILL STAND: On Wednesday, 3/31/99, the Democrat majority and the Republicans (who have yet to figure out the massive Clinton/Carnahan plan to overturn our traditional form of self-government) voted to reject Resolutions in both the Missouri House and Senate which would have stopped Carnahan’s Executive Order 99-03. E.O 99-03 enables the state to make the necessary connections between STW and labor training that will ultimately control the career choices of every Missourian. Senator Anita Yeckel and Representative Michael Gibbons should be thanked for working on these Resolutions. Missourians, as well as citizens across this nation, need to be more informed about STW and how it will affect every business and every citizen. Contact the Missouri Roundtable, P.O. Box 3, Wildwood, MO 63040 for a packet of information about this issue to share with friends and business owners. [Missouri Eagle Forum, “Eagle Watch,” 4/99]
